HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:

'Pearl' or 'Pearl of Arrandale', is another cat which is basically all but lost to feline history. She is first recorded in the Register of 'The Cat Club' on Page 25, Vol.V, 1902, simply as 'PEARL', a short-haired white female of unknown origin and heritage, born in 1898 and belonging to Mr. F.W. Western.

To add a layer of confusion, her entry immediately follows another entry for 'Pearl of Arrandale, for a Longhaired Blue female of excellent pedigree, being sired by 'Ch. Bundle' and out of a daughter of 'Ch. Glaucus'! In addition, that 'Pearl' has the affix of 'Arrandale' attached to her, because she was now owned by Mrs. George Wilson.2

PARENTAGE & OWNERSHIP:

However, in a later entry in the same register, in the listing for Transfers of Ownership, our white English shorthair appears once again, on page 41, only this time, it is SHE that carries the name 'Pearl of Arrandale' and is also listed as transferred from the ownership of Mrs. F.W. Western to that of Mrs. G. Wilson.2

Whether it was legitimately allowed for two cats to share the same name and affix if they were of different breeds, or whether the original 'Pearl of Arrandale' a Blue Persian had deceased, we do not know. The only thing we can be sure of, is that both cats were owned by Mrs. George Wilson, of Arrandale, Sydenham.

SIBLINGS & SHOWS:

In neither case however is even her eye colour mentioned. This we learn only from a caption to her photo, with only the very briefest of alludings as to her successes. That simply reads:
"'Pearl of Arrandale', The property of Mrs George Wilson. - A dainty and fascinating little blue-eyed white lady. She has taken first wherever exhibited."1

BREEDING & PROGENY:

No parentage, or siblings, or progeny are to found, or, if they exist, have succeeded in finding their way into official records.
